HERE IS A WELCOME SOLUTION!!
The
research training that HRODC
Postgraduate Training Institute has been
offering Research
Advisory Service to individuals
and organisations for several
years (in excess of 20 years). It
assumes that organisations
(organizations) would like the
training to be provided for
groups of people,
simultaneously. In addition, while it
has been providing Supervisory Service
and Advisory Service on
all aspects
of research; these had
generally been confined
to large research projects.
However, over the past few
months, HRODC
Postgraduate Training Institute
has been inundated with requests
from individuals for research
training. In response to these
requests, HRODC Postgraduate
Training Institute is
now extending the research
training service to individuals -
hence its research coaching
service. The individuals needing
research coaching might
be tasked with the
responsibility for conducting
research, as part of their
organisational roles,
or have a genuine interest in
the process. Individuals
embarking on dissertations and
theses will find the research
coaching service complementary
to their supervisors' input. The
research coaching is intended to
provide advice on all aspects of
research. The service is timely
for Doctorial students,
particularly in view of the UK
requirement for demonstrable
research skills for all doctoral
students.
As part of the research training, research
trainees may analyse data
that they already hold, or
have access to, elicit
primary data or utilise any data originating with HRODC
Postgraduate Training
Institute's Empirical
Research. The
qquantitative methodological tools
of analysis range from tally
sheets and excel to SPSS or ML3.
All aspects of research is
covered, clients being in a
position to select the aspect of
service that meets their
specific needs. The
research coaching service,
therefore, incorporates training
in:
-
Research
design;
-
Literature
review;
-
Instrument
design;
-
Data
elicitation or data collection;
-
Data
analysis;
-
Data
interpretation;
-
Data
communication;
-
Report
writing or research
presentation;
-
Research Project Supervision;
-
Postgraduate Research
Supervision;
-
Doctoral Research Supervision;
-
Workplace Surveys;
-
Interview Design;
-
Questionnaire Design;
-
Research Support;
-
Research
Project topic Formulation.
Research
design incorporates decisions
on:
-
Broad
research methodology -
qualitative research methods,
quantitative research method;
-
Establishment
of research hypotheses;
-
Population
selection;
-
Experimental
design;
-
Sampling
frame;
-
Research
sample;
-
Sampling
techniques;
-
Decision on
probability levels, where
appropriate;
-
Deciding on
the relevant literature to be
reviewed.
Literature
review is probably one of the
most difficult aspect of the
research for most students.
Human Resource and
Organisational Development
Consultancy (HRODC) helps
researchers to develop critical
and analytical approaches to the
review of literature. This
aspect of the research training
process in complemented by
training in information search
or information retrieval.
Citation and referencing are
also incorporated in this aspect
of research training, using both
Harvard referencing variations
and the American Psychological
Association (APA) system - as
specified in 5th edition of the
APA Manual.
Instrument Design incorporates:
-
Questionnaire
design or interview design;
-
Question
design - closed-ended questions,
open-ended questions, methods of
avoiding forced choice;
-
Observation
checklist;
-
Focus group
guide;
-
Guide to
hypothesis testing;
-
Response
scales;
-
Document
checklist;
-
Devising a
system or systems for
documentary analysis and, or,
conversational analysis;
-
Methods or
research triangulation.
For data elicitation, HRODC
Postgraduate Training Institute helps
trainee researchers to make use
of the instruments that they
have designed. The will be able
to conduct experiments,
undertake observations,
administer questionnaires,
conduct interviews and complete
rating scales.
For data analysis, HRODC
Postgraduate Training Institute helps
research trainees to convert
data into information. This
means using the appropriate
analytical tools, in such a way
that the data that is elicited
becomes meaningful to the
researcher and potential readers
and, or, users. This aspect of
research coaching extends to
experimental analysis, analysis
and chi-square analysis - with
decisions regarding the
acceptance of null hypothesis,
rejection of the null
hypothesis, or acceptance of the
alternative hypothesis.
The development of skills in
data interpretation means that
research trainees will be able
to contextualise the
information. They will determine
what the information really
means, from an analytical
perspective. For example, they
will determine what the
rejection of the null hypothesis
and acceptance of the
alternative hypothesis means for
the issue being addressed. It
may mean that where probability
indicates that there is no
significant difference between
the variables being addressed,
where there is there is an
established premise that there
normally is a difference, there
needs to be an understanding of
what this evidence really means.
In analysing the dialogue and
interaction at meetings or in
the corridors, the research
trainee needs to establish the
trends or patterns, which these
interactions represent -
incorporating the norms and
values that they embrace or that
are significant features.
The communication of the
background, conceptual,
analytical and empirical
information is a crucial aspect
of the research process. Human
Resource and Organisational
Development Consultancy (HRODC) Postgraduate
Training Institute helps
research trainees to write in a
form of speech that is easy to
understand and one that conveys
the information in the most
forceful way - designed to have
maximum impact on readers.
Guidance is given in the choice
of tables and figures, in
conformity with established
standards. This means
interpreting the style guides.
Condensing a great deal of
information in just a few pages
is yet another task - requiring
a succinct writing style. Even
then substantiating of the
claims made is of paramount
importance, that might
necessitate the use of verbatim
and chi-square results, etc. -
elements of report writing that HRODC
Postgraduate Training Institute.
